Hello, my name is Samir.
Just before the pandemic, I was diagnosed with a life-threatening heart condition. The odds weren’t in my favour, and there were moments when I didn’t think I’d make it. But I did. And when you survive something like that, your perspective changes. I felt compelled to do something—anything—that put a little more good into the world. Something that came from the heart.
That’s where the idea for Heart Effect was born.
As I recovered, I began looking into ways to give back. I noticed that many human rights organisations and charities sold merchandise to raise funds, but the products often felt like an afterthought—too logo-heavy, too bland, and ultimately, not something most people would choose to wear. And I thought: what if the gear was actually cool? What if it felt like fashion, not fundraising?
So I flipped the concept. What if a retail brand—desirable in its own right—existed to support charity, rather than the other way around?
Heart Effect isn’t about asking for donations. It’s about giving people something they actually want—thoughtfully designed, personality-driven clothing and goods—and letting the impact be the bonus. Research shows that younger generations are more likely to support causes passively, through purchases they already planned to make. So that’s what we do. You buy something you love, and at checkout, you find out that part of that sale goes to a cause that needs support. No pressure, no extra cost. Just a moment of real impact tucked into your day.
I’ve always volunteered—but I’d never started something like this. I designed everything you see here myself, while working full-time and juggling other creative projects. It was daunting. There were nights I doubted anyone would care. But I kept going, because I believe in what this can be.
For me, success isn’t selling out collections or getting headlines. It’s knowing we helped even one organisation make a difference. Especially the ones that don’t get the spotlight. The underfunded, the overlooked, the ones doing critical work with limited reach.
The name “Heart Effect” is deeply personal. Yes, because of my heart. But more than that, it’s about the ripple that a single kind choice can make. A quiet wave of good that spreads outward. I want our customers to feel like they’ve made something good happen—just by being themselves, by expressing their individuality, by showing up in style.
